| Geography: |
The heart of the Greater Quebec Region is Quebec City, the provincial capital. This walled city established in 1608 is an unforgettable place of history and romance with its cobblestone streets and historic buildings. The Dufferin Terrace, adjacent to the Chateau Frontenac, high on a cliff above the waterfront offers a sweeping view of the St. Lawrence River.
The Charlevoix region is northeast of Quebec City, along the St. Lawrence River. This beautiful mountainous area is sometimes called the “Switzerland of Quebec.” It encompasses 6000 square kilometers of rugged mountains, wilderness and a tidal shoreline, occasionally dotted with small villages and towns. Charlevoix, named after a Jesuit priest, is a favourite region for artists and painters. |

The Greater Quebec City region has a population of half a million souls concentrated in a 30-kilometre band along the river. Charlevoix has a population of approximately 30,000. The main towns are Baie Saint-Paul and La Malbaie. |
| Economy: |
Much of the provincial capital’s economic activity is linked to the Quebec government. There are also a number of industries, services and a Canadian military base north of Quebec City at Val Cartier.
While there is some farming and fishing in Charlevoix, the regional economy relies mostly on tourism. From whale watching on the coast to salmon fishing and caribou hunting in the interior. |
| History: |
Charlevoix can make an interesting historical claim: Pierre de Chauvin, a Huguenot from France, established the first Protestant church in New France in the Charlevoix region in 1599 when he visited Tadoussac, strategically situated at the confluence of the Saint-Lawrence and Saguenay Rivers. Historical records indicate that a small band of persecuted French Protestants joined him there and began to hold worship services. |

In Greater Quebec City there are six Fellowship Baptist churches: Chauveau (in Neufchatel), Pont-Rouge, Credo (in Sillery), Beauport, Charlesbourg and Charny. The church at Charlesbourg was established as a daughter work of Beauport in September 2000 and is still a mission work under the leadership of Réjean and Danielle Joly.
In the Charlevoix region, there is a French Fellowship Baptist church at La Malbaie under the leadership of Roger and Guylaine Madore. |
