Where we serve
Montérégie / Rive-Sud

Geography:
The Montérégie Region is known as the "Garden of Quebec" because of its fertile soil and relatively mild winters. Stretching from the Ontario border in the west, this vast region hugs the southern shore of both the St. Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers and reaches across vast plains into the highlands of the Haute-Yamaska. A group of mountains called the Monteregian mountain chain are scattered here and there across the region, forming a beautiful backdrop to apple orchards, vineyards, and rivers such as the Richelieu and Châteauguay.
Population:
A large and growing population lives in a series of communities in what is known as the South Shore across the St. Lawrence River from Montreal. Despite heavy rush hour traffic, thousands upon thousands of South Shore residents commute to the city daily. A large number of people also live scattered throughout the Montérégie region in small cities and towns.
Economy:
Like most large population centres, the South Shore has many industries, businesses and services. The economy of the Montérégie region is largely based on various types of agriculture and dairy farming.
Ministry:
Ten French-speaking Fellowship Baptist Churches minister in this region, including autonomous churches at Longueuil, Saint-Bruno, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Saint-Hyacinthe, Vaudreuil and Valleyfield.
There are three mission works in the region receiving partial support through the Fellowship French Mission. They include Châteauguay, under the leadership of Gilles and Michelle Paquin; Saint-Hubert led by Gilles and Monique Saulnier and Saint-Constant, a church plant, under the pastoral care of Daniel and Chantal Gagné.
The new church in Saint-Constant was started in the Gagnés' living room in the fall of 2007, with a goal to reach the communities of Saint-Constant, Sainte-Catherine and Delson, where a total of 70,000 people reside. In 2009, with outside financial help, God opned the door for this young congregation to acquire a former Anglican Church edifice. The building is well located in the heart of the area the church wants to reach with the gospel.
