Project 2006 Update
When Paul and Barnabas returned from their first missionary journey, they “reported all that God had done with them and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles” (Acts 14:27). I want to echo these words as I report on Project 2006—God has done the work and He has opened the doors. We give Him all the glory, honour and praise! The aim of Project 2006 was to assist five church plants in Quebec and the mission work at Rimouski to acquire its own building. Our financial goal was to raise $180,000 ($30,000 for each church), and we are more than thrilled to have received over $200,000! Updates on the churches involved in Project 2006:
- Bury – Project 2006 funds have enabled church planters Michel and Annette Houle to serve full-time at Bury. This church was launched in November 2005, under the Houles leadership while Michel maintained secular employment.
- Rivière-du-Loup – The new church started at Rivière-du-Loup in June 2006 has a congregation of 35 to 40 people. With leaders Hugo and Lyne Éthier, this group is truly seeking to evangelize their city of 32,000 inhabitants.
- Côte-des-Neiges – The public worship services of this new urban church began with a group of 60 people on the first Sunday of 2007. Under the leadership of Ricardo and Ingrid Castro, the church wants to reach people of many ethnic groups.
- Saint-Césaire – In early February 2007, a new church plant (a daughter work of the Granby church) began holding services with a core group of 30 to 35 people led by Jean-Pierre and Julie Gagné.
- Sainte-Catherine – Sainte-Catherine (pop. 19,000) is one of many Quebec towns without an evangelical church. Church planters Daniel and Chantal Gagné will be moving into this area (with a surrounding population of 70,000) in the summer of 2007. They expect to start a church plant in late 2007 or early 2008.
- Rimouski – In its 20 years of existence, the church at Rimouski (pop. 40,000) has always rented facilities. They have now purchased a former sporting goods store and plan to “convert it” into a place of worship.
Thank you to all who gave and prayed for this strategic project. Together, by God’s grace and for God’s glory we are making a difference in Quebec! |
