The Madores minister at the church in La Malbaie where they seek to be a lighthouse in this beautiful but spiritually dark region of the province.
From June 21 to 24, 2000, the church in La Malbaie hosted an evangelism camp. It was dubbed the "Camp of Joy" by organizers and participants alike. The small church was overjoyed to welcome 175 Christians who came to help them reach their area with the good news of Christ. Roger said the whole experience was extraordinary and a real boost to get "Christians back on the rails of evangelism." Teams of volunteers knocked on 5,000 doors, conducted 1,000 spiritual surveys and reaped 200 contacts desiring follow-up visits.

Background: |
Roger was born in Edmundston in the northwest corner of New Brunswick. Early in life Roger knew he was a sinner because he hated school and invented imaginary illnesses to avoid going. In his country school, nuns spoke about God and His Word, and also about hell, which left a lasting fear in his heart.
Unable to find employment in his area, he went to live with his sister in Quebec City. There he not only found a job, but also several "friends" who, like him, liked to drink. His addiction to alcohol grew and he became dependent. To add to his troubles, he began to defy all authority, not only at work, but also the law. In 1975, he met Guylaine Aspireault who later became his wife. In response to Guylaine's advice, he trained to become a butcher.
During the summer of 1980, he met a Christian butcher who regularly carried his Bible with him to share his faith with anyone who would listen. One evening, this man and his wife came to visit Roger and Guylaine, but a discussion about God did not go very far because the Madores said they were not interested in changing their religion.
Roger continued alcohol consumption was a problem. One day, his wife gave him an ultimatum-either he quit drinking or she was leaving. This led to a period of sobriety. During this time the Christian butcher came to see him again. He spoke about hell for four long hours. It was exactly what Roger needed to hear, because he had never lost his fear of that horrible place of suffering. He recounted this conversation in detail to his Guylaine, and at her invitation this Christian man and his wife returned to explain the way of salvation. Both Roger and Guylaine understood the message and accepted Christ as their Saviour.
