Guy and Manon Lavoie

AGEEQ and J-BEQ

lavoie
Current ministry: Guy serves as a full-time evangelist to the student population in the province of Quebec since January 1997. He believes God can do great things with young people. It is today's challenge to pass on the faith to the next generation and develop church leaders for tomorrow.

Guy's mandate is to work with the youth of French Baptist churches to establish evangelical student groups in CEGEPS and universities. He also gives leadership to JBEQ, a summer student evangelism ministry that has been instrumental in attracting young people to ministry

Family: Guy and Manon have three adult sons.

Spiritual Background: As a teenager Guy rebelled against the religion of his youth, rejected authority and whole-heartedly embraced the hippie life-style: the music, the hair, the drugs, the morals, the attitude. His life was a perpetual party, but nothing made sense, some of his friends committed suicide and he couldn't tell right from wrong anymore.

When Guy was 21, his older brother André became a Christian and spoke to him about his need of salvation. The Bible's offer of a new life through Jesus Christ touched him and he made a profession of faith, but a few days later he left on a three-year hitchhiking trip across Canada and the United States.

He sank further into sin and fled occasions to hear the gospel's message again. Nonetheless God sought him out. While in the United States he met a University student who invited him for dinner and presented Jesus to him in a personal way. Alone with the God of the Bible, Guy gave his life to the Lord and decided to follow Him.

Witnessing to those around him produced rejection but also conversions. God used him to witness to four young men who accepted Christ—three of whom are in ministry today. Other Christians saw in Guy the gift of evangelist and encouraged him to attend Bible school.

Guy never forgot his debt of gratitude to the University student who witnessed to him and he never lost his burden for young people. Manon shares Guy’s burden for students. Manon was saved as a CEGEP student in the early 1970's and led three of her fellow students to the Lord.

Ministry Experience: In 1975, Guy became a servant-in-training under Jacques Alexanian, then pastoring in Hull. Guy was assigned to student evangelism at the local CEGEP and the University of Ottawa, where he set up evangelical student groups. The Lord blessed outreach among students. Leading young people to Christ and making disciples became a way of life.

In the 20 years since, Guy has pastored in Buckingham, Fabreville and Quebec City. His heart still burns for evangelism. For the last ten years, he has trained scores of young men and women with JBEQ in personal evangelism.
