In July 2003, the elders’ of the Gatineau church asked the Langlois to consider serving the Lord as missionaries at their daughter work in Maniwaki called Église Baptiste de la Haute Gatineau. After prayerful consideration, Yves and Huguette accepted to shepherd the small flock at Maniwaki.
Maniwaki and the neighbouring towns have a combined population of about 10,000 people, including a reservation for Huron and Algonquin Indians. Two years ago a young man from the reservation was saved, he married a Christian woman and they are involved in the church.

Yves and Huguette met as young adults and were married in 1966. Yves describes his family in these words, “We have three sons saved by grace who are married to three terrific sisters in the Lord. We have seven grandchildren that now call us Papi and Mamie.”

Background: |
Yves and Huguette were born in the city of Longueuil, a Montreal suburb on the south shore. Both had hardworking, stable parents that raised them in the Roman Catholic religion. Yves comes from a family of nine children and Huguette is the youngest of a family of five.
Huguette was the first to come to the Lord in 1971. Following her father’s death in 1965, Huguette’s mother began to question her religion and to search for the truth about eternity. Her search eventually led her to the French Baptist church in Longueuil where she received teaching for a year before she committed her life to Christ. Huguette was not interested in her mother’s new faith at first but everything changed when her sister Mireille became interested.
Huguette was very close to her sister Mireille. Both sisters were expecting their second child in 1971 and they were hospitalized at the same time. Mireille had a healthy son but Huguette’s baby was stillborn. Huguette felt terribly alone with her pain as Yves’ reaction was to retreat into silence.
A few weeks later Mireille read Billy Graham’s book Peace with God and accepted the Lord. She began to share her new spiritual discoveries with Huguette who then agreed to read the book. Huguette began attending the French Baptist church with her mother and her sister. She invited Yves too but he was quite reticent and not open to her new faith. A year later, Yves asked her what she would like for Easter. He expected her to ask for flowers or chocolate but she surprised him by asking him to come to church with her. He answered, “Okay, just this once.”
Huguette prayed for God to intervene in Yves’ life. Without her prompting, Yves returned to church the following week. The pastor preached an evangelistic message about the need of being reconciled with God. At first Yves was angry thinking that Huguette had told the pastor he was coming but then he realized that God was at work. Later, alone in his room he remembered the pastor’s message. He recalls, “I realized that I was separated from God by my sin. I confessed this to Him and asked to be forgiven and I invited Him to take my life.”

Experience: |
Yves joined the Longueuil church. He began taking seminary courses in 1973, the first year SEMBEQ began and received a diploma close to 20 years later. Through the years Yves served as a deacon and later as an elder. The Lord used him in different ministries including: Sunday school superintendent, worship leader, counselling, and Bible study group leader.
Huguette also took theological training with SEMBEQ starting in 1976. Huguette says, “At first it was just for personal interest, to understand the Word of God better. I never would have thought that my sister and I would graduate with a B.Th. 15 years later!” Huguette has been faithful and devoted in her Christian service over the years. She has served in a number of church ministries including: music, counselling, and leading small group studies for women.
In 1997, after Yves took early retirement from a government job he developed a growing desire to serve God. A few years later they moved to the Laurentians where they joined a new church plant at L’Annonciation. Their Christian maturity was a great help for the young church where the Lord used them in a number of ministries.
