Current ministry: Current ministry: Pastor Jacob Chéry serves the Haitian congregation at Église Baptiste Évangélique Gethsémanie in Montreal. The church continues to develop and mature. There are between 80 to 100 people attending Sunday services in rented facilities in the city's east end.

Family: The couple has two children: Jim Christopher and Phoebe.

Spiritual Background: Jacob was born in Haiti and grew up in a Christian home where his father was a pastor. He accepted the Lord at age 13 after witnessing his older sister's miraculous recovery from a serious illness. This powerful experience led him to see the love and grace of God and he gave his life to the Lord.

Jacob met his wife Philomène while he was still a student. They were married in Haiti and moved to Montreal in October 1997. Philomène does not come from a Christian family but she heard and responded to the gospel as a teenager through the testimony of some friends.

Ministry Experience: Jacob studied theology at École Évangélique de la Bible in the capital city of Port-au-Prince and was ordained in Haiti. While still in his native country he held various leadership positions such as Sunday school superintendent, youth leader and he led an evangelism program before becoming pastor of a church.

When Jacob and Philomène arrived in Montreal they joined the Gethsémanie church then under the leadership of Pastor Edner Dorcine. Jacob first became an assistant pastor and then took more responsibility when Pastor Dorcine was away due to a prolonged illness.
